摄影记者也不尽是记录者,是一个以影像报导新闻事实的记者,不是一个摄影师,不是一个影像制造者,改影像,就是改新闻。
I am currently the Photo Editor/Chief Photographer of the Associated Press bureau based in Kuala Lumpur. After completing high school, I joined a local Chinese daily newspaper (Sin Chew Jit Poh) when they started their Perak Edition.
I later moved to Kuala Lumpur to pursue formal photography classes and then, worked with a commercial photo studio for two years before striking out on my own with a few fellow photographers covering weddings, fashion, events and sports, which later led me to meet many mainstream press photographers during my assignments.
This interest in mainstream news photography landed me a job as a press photographer with The New Straits Times (NST), a Malaysian national English daily. After almost two year stint with NST my eye for news photojournalism later landed me a position as a Reuters pixman.
Since 1998, I have served with the Associated Press based in KL and have served on location in Afghanistan, Thailand, Korea, Indonesia, East Timor, Philippines, Japan, China, Brunei, Singapore, Vietnam, Pakistan, and Macau. Well, of course, it goes unmentioned that I have also covered lots of local major news and sports assignments in Malaysia.
Athens 2004 Olympics was one of my major sports assignments in my career, which allowed me to witness the top athletes compete. Above all, it has provided me a chance to work with the best and learn more about the many ways to best cover these types of assignments.
I feel it's an honor to have the opportunity to do the job I love the most. When a job is a hobby, it's not a job, it's an experience in exploring opportunities.
